Apple has been revealed to be working on a new operating system, codenamed “Charismatic.” According to information reported by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, this software, which will be called homeOS, will be used in Apple’s new HomePod, which will be released in 2026, and its desktop robot, expected in 2027.
Apple homeOS is coming
Gurman’s report indicates that homeOS shares influences with the tvOS and watchOS operating systems. The new software will feature the hexagonal app grid familiar from the Apple Watch. Watch faces and widgets are at the heart of the user experience. One of homeOS’s most notable features is its multi-user support.
The device’s front-facing camera supports facial recognition. This feature will recognize the face of a person approaching the device, and the home screen will automatically personalize according to that person’s preferences. App layout, content, and settings will be personalized.
Siri integration is also a key control mechanism on the new platform. Users will interact primarily with voice commands, but touch input will also be available.
homeOS will come pre-installed with apps like Calendar, Camera, Music, Notes, and Reminders. While these are currently limited to what’s known, new details are expected to be released in the coming months.
The same leak also states that homeOS will be equipped with artificial intelligence (AI)-powered features. Specifically, a new Siri integration will be at the core of the platform. This improved Siri will make it easier for users to control devices with voice commands.
Furthermore, thanks to the operating system’s multi-user support, facial recognition will automatically activate personal profiles using the device’s front camera. This feature will allow each member of the household to enjoy a personalized experience based on their preferences.
